Lg Refrigerator Ice Maker Not Working [Fixed]

Let’s start with a simple test you can do that might help us figure out what the problem is. To test the ice maker, pull the handle to open the ice room and take the ice bucket out.

There are two kinds of ice makers for LG fridges. This is the power button for the first one.

Check to see if it’s on. The button to test is below.

Put the towel here in the ice room to catch any water or ice that falls when you run the test mode.

If you press the button and hold it down for about 3 seconds, the ice maker will start to turn. The towel is there to catch any water or ice that might fall off the tray. Only about 4 or 5 oz of water will fit in the tray.
This model has another kind of ice maker. There is no tray and no power switch. Even though the ice maker doesn’t have a tray, you should still put a towel under it before running the tests.

On the left side of this kind of ice maker, there is a tiny hole. It’s a test button here. In order to get the arm to start turning, press and hold the button for around 3 seconds.

The ice maker test can only be performed once within the first two hours that the refrigerator has been plugged in. Unplug the device for roughly 30 seconds to reset the ice maker if you want to run the test mode again.

Why Is The Ice Maker On My Lg Refrigerator Not Filling With Water?

Problems in Water Filter

If your ice maker didn’t fill with water during the test mode, check your water filter.
If the filter is not in the filter housing correctly or there is no filter, water won’t go to the ice maker or water dispenser.
You just have to slide the filter into the housing, push it in, and twist it to lock it.
If you just changed the water filter and then noticed that the ice maker started to leak, the problem could be with the water pressure.
With a new filter, water will flow more freely and may make a splash when it gets to the ice maker.
Some water will leak from the ice maker compartment all the way to the bottom, where it will stay for a while.
If you have a ball-type water tap behind the fridge, turn it at 45 degrees or less to lower the water pressure going into the fridge. To get a good water pressure, you have to play with it.
To make this change, turn the water tap to 45 degrees and have someone use a big cup or something similar to push the water dispenser.
This way, you’ll be able to lower the water pressure to a level that’s good for you.
Another problem can happen when the ice maker leaks or dumps ice into the bucket. This can cause some ice cubes to get stuck in the tray.
When fresh water is added to the ice maker, it will actually fill up too much, and some water will spill over the tray.
In this case, take the ice maker out and clean the calcium buildup on the inside of the tray.

Problems in Inlet Valve

When the water inlet valve broke, you won’t have water as well. To check the inlet valve, you just need a multimeter.

But remember that LG fridges have two valves that let air in. The main valve is on the back of the fridge, and the second valve (for the ice maker) is in the door on the left.

You need to look at both of them. The water comes from the main valve to the second valve. But, in my experience, most problems with the ice maker are caused by the second valve.

Problems in Water Hose

Behind your LG refrigerator, there is an inlet valve with a water hose attached to it. If the water hose is kinked, it will make it hard for water to get to the valve that lets water in.

Problems in Ice Maker

If the ice maker didn’t pass the diagnostic test and you couldn’t get it to work, the motor probably broke.

Problems in Control board

A control board is inside every LG fridge. If the control board isn’t sending power to the ice maker or if one of the relays on the control board has broken, the ice maker won’t work.

If all of the parts listed above are fine and the ice maker only works when you press the RESET button (the ice maker should turn all the way around but won’t make ice on its own after that), then the problem is with the main control board or the optical sensors on the ice maker.

Why isn’t my ice maker making ice?

One reason is that the fan in the freezer where the ice maker is located isn’t working.  This fan blows cold air into the ice maker so that water can freeze.
If the temperature in the ice maker is higher than -12C, no ice will be made.
To see if this fan is working, you need to use a magnet to make it look like a door is closed ( see top side of the door where the magnet is located).  If cold air is coming out of the vents, the fan is working. This is a picture of the back panel in the freezer’s ice maker and evaporator.

How should I set my LG freezer so that it makes ice?

For normal ice production, the temperature should be set to -2°F or -20°C. To change the temperature, press the FREEZER button to go through the different options and set it to the temperature you want.

How to Reset the Ice Maker on an LG Refrigerator

To reset the ice maker, unplug the fridge or turn off the breaker for at least 30 seconds. Follow these steps to reset the ice maker.

What Does It Mean When My LG Refrigerator Says “Ice Plus”?

When all the ice in the LG refrigerator is gone, it will take 2 hours to make the next batch. Some LG models come with something called “Ice Plus.” This feature just makes the ice cubes come out twice as fast and speeds up the freezing process.

How long does it take for ice to form in an LG refrigerator?

It depends. If you just bought and set up an LG fridge, it might take about 24 hours. But if your refrigerator works for more than 24 hours, the ice maker will make new ice cubes every 2 to 3 hours.
